Grasfeder Farms is located in Obion County, Tennessee (a northwestern county in the state) approximately 1.5 miles from the Kentucky state line. Agriculture has been the backbone of this country and farmers have been the custodians of the traditional values that made this country great.
We grow a variety of row crops (corn, soybeans and wheat) on 640 acres. We have been no-tilling crops for about 20yrs. Alfalfa is also a crop grown on our farm (not major, but very time consuming and labor intensive). Wheat and soybeans are double cropped in this area making June a very busy month. We enjoy planting and marketing about 1 to 2 acres of sweet corn each year.
Livestock is another facet of our operation. We have approximately 80 head of Angus cattle. This spring has been cold and rainy and very productive for producing newborn calves. We have one that we believe to be the first of twins, but the mother would not claim it, so it has become dependent upon us for nourishment. "Lily" is the name this calf has been given. Lily has now returned to the herd (8/4/98). Lily is a mama now (April 2000)
We believe we are only caretakers of the land GOD has given us the opportunity to farm. Faith is a very important part of farming and everyday life. One of our favorite scriptures comes from Micah 6:8……….He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? We attend a small country church where the average attendance is 18.
